The Band Profile
The Outer Rim is a band that meshes Jazz, Funk, Rock, and Free music to
creat a sound that is instantly recognizable yet hard to define. Everyone
in the band plays more than one instrument and uses a variety of effects
to create "soundscapes". Fans of the band have often said that
they "trip" while listening to the music. Hence the name "The
Outer Rim".
The core members include bassist/band leader Jeff Curry, Hakuei Kim on piano and keyboards, and Norihiko Hibino on sax, synth and computer. The band has been playing together steady for about 2 years and has built a good following. Eager to take the next step, the band is planning to record a live CD, and start playing larger venues.
The Outer Rimはジャズ、ファンク、ロック、フリーミュージックを融合したサウンドを作り出し、その境界のないサウンドは聞くものに強烈な印象を与える。バンドメンバー全員が二つ以上の楽器を操り、様々なエフェクトを使用することによって、「音の風景」を奏でている。このバンドのファンは「意識が現実を離れて別の世界にトリップするような感覚を覚える」と話す。だからバンド名に「The Outer Rim」と付けたのは説明するまでもないだろう。
コアメンバーは、リーダー＆ベーシストにJeff Curry、ピアノ＆キーボードにハクエイ・キム、サックス＆コンピューターに日比野則彦。バンドは二年近くに渡って定期的に活動を続け、着実に固定ファンを増やしている。更なるステップアップのため、ライブCDのレコーディングを行い、より規模の大きいライブハウスで演奏することを次なる目標に掲げている。 |
